Websites, newsletters and Twitter accounts their trade experts follow
With so much uncertainty coming into the new year, where can industry professionals find up-to-date trade information, policies and news – beyond Breakbulk, of course!
Several potential resources were highlighted during the question-and-answer session of a recent Exporters’ Competitive Maritime Council (ECMC) online meeting, with the assistance of the law firm of Arent Fox. Following is a sampling of those suggestions and links:
International Trade Daily – “Daily coverage of regulatory developments within the WTO, USITC, FTC, CBP, USDA, US Trade Representative, Commerce Department and more.”
Washington Tariff and Trade Letter – “Provides exclusive, behind-the-scenes news and analysis every week of U.S. trade policies, regulations and legislation, export controls, trade sanctions and enforcement of antidumping and countervailing duty laws.”
The Export/Import Daily Update – “A newsletter to inform readers of changes to defense and high-tech trade laws and regulations.” Editors James E. Bartlett III, Salvatore Di Misa, and Elina Tsapouri check daily government resources including the U.S. Federal Register, Congressional Record, Departments of Commerce, Justice, Treasury, Defense, Homeland Security, as well as agencies including Customs and Border Protection and Office of Foreign Assets Control, and similar websites of Australia, Canada, EU, Germany, the Netherlands, UK, Japan, and other countries and international organizations.
Office of the U.S. Trade Representative updates – Press releases, reports and publications regarding U.S. trade policy, updated on a regular basis.
U.S. Office of Foreign Assets Control – Administers and enforces economic and trade sanctions based on US foreign policy and national security goals against targeted foreign countries and regimes.
Politico – Coverage of a range of politics and policy, include trade, transportation, technology, energy and environment and cybersecurity, with latest headlines and tip sheets. Alerts may be set on certain topics.
Sandler, Travis, Rosenberg Trade Updates – Collection of daily updates, advisories and podcasts emailed to subscribers.
Bureau of Industry and Security – U.S. Department of Commerce Site, provides a range of resources.
- Google Alerts are helpful for tracking particular countries (google.com/alerts).
- Twitter feeds and press releases of the Senate Finance Committee (twitter.com/SenFinance), House Ways and Means Committee, (twitter.com/WaysMeansCmte), Department of Commerce (twitter.com/CommerceGov), USTR (twitter.com/USTradeRep), and U.S. Ex-Im Bank (twitter.com/EximBankUS).
