Star Moves Wärtsilä Engine

Transport solutions provider Star Shipping has delivered an industrial engine from Port Qasim to the Korangi Industrial Area in Karachi, Pakistan.

The outsized Wärtsilä unit weighed 110 tonnes and measured 10 meters long. It was transported on behalf of Yunus Brothers, and was discharged using a jacking/skidding method to avoid the involvement of heavy-duty cranes.

“Due to the over-dimensions and heavy weight of the cargo, the transportation through Karachi City required great skill being one of the most urban city areas of Pakistan with very heavy traffic and low-height bridges,” said Muhammad Kamran, director at Star Shipping.

With head office in Karachi and branch offices in Lahore, Faisalabad, Islamabad and Sialkot, Star Shipping this month joined the Project Cargo Network breakbulk association as representative for Pakistan.
