Natco Moves Lephalale Turbine

Turbine Returned to Berlin for Repair

Heavy-lift operator Natco has completed delivery of a power station turbine from South Africa to Germany.

The outsized unit weighed 128 tonnes and measured 7 meters long, 3 meters wide and one meter high. It was shipped from the Lephalale power station in Limpopo Province, South Africa, to Berlin.

“The abnormal transport, permits, escorts, surveyors and the ocean freight was organised as a total package. The abnormal transport within South Africa was a challenge and took between 10-14 days due to road and weather conditions,” a spokesperson for Natco explained.

With offices in Johannesburg, Cape Town, Port Elizabeth and Durban, Natco is the newest member of breakbulk association the Project Cargo Network in South Africa.
