Authorities at the Port of Bilbao have overseen loading and transport of an outsized STS crane, bound for Ghent.

The Danieli STS crane was loaded onboard the barge Caroline and prepared for towing by the AHT tug Mustang to the Port of Ghent in Belgium. The giant crane weighed 2,450 tonnes and measured 107 meters long, 38 meters wide and 64 meters high.

“The embarkation operation of the crane, manufactured by URSSA, required the collaboration of Danieli and Sarens in engineering, Fracht Italia Forwarders, Davila Bilbao Shipping Agents and Consignaciones Toro y Betolaza Stevedoring,” a Bilbao port spokesperson said.

The Port of Bilbao is one of the major project cargo hubs in the north of Spain and recently invested €79 million in a new breakbulk dock, known as the Central Breakwater.
