Vattenfall will build a 576-megawatt offshore wind farm off the island of Sylt in the North Sea.
Vattenfall purchased the project from Sandbank Power, a German power company who had obtained a permit to install 96 turbines with installed capacities of 6.0 megawatts. The purchase agreement with Vattenfall provides for an additional 40 turbines, according to a statement from the Swedish power developer.
The project will be constructed 90 kilometers west of the German island of Sylt, close to Vattenfall’s Dan Tysk offshore wind facility. The 400-megawatt DanTysk project is scheduled to be completed in early 2014. At that time, Vattenfall will begin construction on its new project Sandbank 24.
