Turkish Wind Tower Plant Going Up

Breakbulk Online - News Story

Gestamp Wind Steel has begun the construction of a new factory in Bandirma, Turkey for the production of wind towers. The GESBEY wind tower facility is a joint venture between Spanish Gestamp Wind and Turkish Faik Celik Holding.

The facility is estimated to cost US$38 million. Construction is due to start before the end of this year, according to a company statement. The new plant will have an annual capacity of 450 towers.

The towers will be exported to Romania, Bulgaria and Greece, all markets experiencing strong wind development, according to the company.

Gestamp may also benefit from the local Turkish market. The Turkish Energy Market Regulatory Authority is poised to begin approvals for a backlog representing 78 gigawatts worth of new wind projects in Turkey.
