South Korea will spend US$2 million on a feasibility study for wind farm projects in Jhumpir and Hawksbay in Sindh province in southern Pakistan, according to Industrial Information Resources.
The wind farms will be set up by Korea Electric Power Corporation. Pakistan is also seeking technical expertise from South Korea in the development of solar and coal-fired projects in the country.
Earlier this year, a South Korean consortium led by Hyundai Heavy Industries Company Limited signed a memorandum of understanding to build a 50-megawatt wind farm in Sindh province. The wind farm will consist of 30 Hyundai turbines of 1.65 megawatts each. The wind power project is likely to begin operations in 2011, according to IRR.
Pakistan faces a daily power supply deficit of between 4,500 megawatts and 5,000 megawatts.
