Sinovel Wind Co., a Beijing-based wind-turbine maker, announced it will build a wind turbine manufacturing facility in Shanghai.
The Lingang plant will plant will produce offshore wind turbines with capacities of five, six and 10 megawatts. Total annual output will be 1.5 gigawatts, according to a statement by the Shanghai municipal government.
Sinovel plans to supply both domestic and international energy companies with the new turbines. Sinovel ranks third in global market share of wind turbines with 9.2 percent, according to BTM Consult’s 2009 industry report.
