Windstream Wolfe Island Shoals has signed an agreement with Siemens Canada to supply up to 130 turbines for a project on Lake Ontario.
The 300-megawatt offshore project will be built between five and 16 kilometers off the southwest shore of Wolfe Island, in eastern Lake Ontario on 48,000 acres of shallow water shoals, according to a company statement. It will be Canada’s first offshore wind facility.
The turbine blades will be manufactured at Siemens' plant in Tillsonburg, Ontario, approximately 400 kilometers from the north end of the lake.
