The Energy Ministry of Uganda has announced it will develop a US$316 million hydropower plant on the Nile River. The 600-megawatt plant will be located in Karuma, a region in northwest Uganda.
Construction on the new plant is scheduled to being in May 2012, according to international reports. The bidding process is at an “advanced stage” and engineering, procurement and construction contractors are expected to submit their bids in January.
The ministry also announced that studies for the proposed 140-megawatt Isimba hydropower plant in the western region is ongoing and will be completed early 2012.
