China’s GD Power, a unit of state-owned China Guodian Corporation, plans to develop a US$3 billion hydropower plant on the Dadu River in Garze Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture of Sichuan province.
The plant will be built by Dadu River Hydropower Development, according to international reports. Houziyan hydropower will have a generating capacity of 1,700 megawatts. It will consist of four 425-megawatt generators.
Construction work on the Houziyan Dam officially began at a groundbreaking ceremony held last month. When completed in 2017, the dam will be 733 feet tall. Water from its 662,000,000-cubic-meter reservoir will support the new hydropower plant.
