China Scores Pakistan Wind Contract

Breakbulk Online - News Story

Pakistan has awarded a US$130 million contract to China’s Three Gorges First Wind to build a 50-megawatt wind farm in the province of Sindh.

The government has planned an aggressive program to add to its renewable energy supply.

"The year 2012 will be remembered as the year of wind and renewable energy in Pakistan. We plan to inaugurate a project every month in 2012,” Arif Alauddin, CEO of Pakistan’s Alternative Energy Development Board, told reporters.

The new wind farm is scheduled to be commissioned by late summer 2012. Three Gorges Pakistan has two other 50-megawatt wind projects underway and is seeking land for a 450-megawatt project. China Three Gorges Project Corporation plans to invest up to $15 billion for generating 10,000 megawatts of wind power in Pakistan during the next five years.
