BP, Sempra Develop U.S. Wind Farms

Breakbulk Online - News Story

BP Wind Energy and Sempra U.S. Gas & Power will jointly develop two wind farms worth more than US$1 billion. Combined, they will generate 560 megawatts of electricity.

The 141-megawatt Mehoopany Wind Farm in Pennsylvania will be located in Wyoming County. GE will supply 88 of its 1.6-megawatt turbines for the project. The construction contract was awarded to Colorado-based Renewable Energy Systems Americas. Site work began in November 2011, according to a statement from Sempra.

Flat Ridge 2 will be constructed in Kansas, approximately 40 miles southwest of Wichita. The project will have a generating capacity of 419 megawatts from 262 of GE’s 1.6-megawatt turbines. Minnesota-based Blattner Energy won the construction contract.

The projects are scheduled to be commissioned by the end of 2012. BP will operate both wind facilities.
