Wind Equipment Leaves Canada for U.S. Wind Farms

Breakbulk Online - News Story

Chicago-based Vectora Transportation has begun moving wind equipment by water, rail and truck from eastern Canada to Invenergy’s wind farm sites in the Midwest region of the U.S.

Shipments of 134 turbines and associated parts began last month. Most will be assembled at Vectora’s distribution center at the Port of Cacouna in Quebec.

Vectora has also established a multi-modal distribution center at the Port of Indiana-Burns Harbor to position inventory for the Invenergy job and for other potential wind farm work in the U.S. Midwest.

Canada Steamship Lines’ vessel Birchglen handled the first shipment of wind equipment. Wind towers were also moved by railcar from Quebec City to the distribution center at Burns Harbor. From there, the turbines will be trucked to their destinations throughout the Midwest.

Vectora expects to conclude this transport project in early 2011.
