Wärtsilä Supplies Plant in Dominican Republic

Breakbulk Online - News Story

Wärtsilä has been awarded a US$196 million contract by Empresa Generadora de Electricidad Hainao to supply a dual-fuel power plant in the Dominican Republic.

The Quisqueya II power plant will be powered by 12 Wärtsilä generating sets running primarily on natural gas, but with the capability to switch to heavy fuel oil as needed, according to a company statement. A second plant owned by Barrick Gold, a Canadian gold mining company, will be built on the same site. The twin plants will have a single central control and will generate 430 megawatts of electricity.

The Wärtsilä plant is scheduled to be commissioned during the second half of 2013.
