TEPCO Boosts Capacity at Chiba

Breakbulk Online - News Story

Tokyo Electric Power will upgrade three gas turbines to combined cycle units at Chiba Thermal Power Station near Tokyo. The expansion will help TEPCO offset the loss of capacity it has suffered since shutting down Fukushima Daicchi.

TEPCO has installed two of three new 334-megawatt gas-fired units at Chiba. The third turbine will be installed by July 2012, according to a statement from the Japanese utility. Once all three are operational, TEPCO will convert them to more efficient combined cycle units and add 500 megawatts of generating capacity, bringing total generating capacity to 1,500 megawatts.

The expansion project is to be complete by July 2012.
