Sweden’s Skanska has been awarded an engineering, procurement and construction contract from Petrobas to build a US$490 million natural gas thermal power plant in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
The 550-megawatt power plant will be built in Seropédica, at Baixada Fluminense, 75 kilometers northeast of Rio de Janeiro. Skanska will be responsible for the basic design, detailed engineering and construction of the facilities, including civil works and electromechanical installations, according to a company statement. The contract also includes the procurement of equipment and material, and assisting with the start up and operation of the thermal power plant.
The project is scheduled to begin immediately and will be completed in the fourth quarter of 2014.
