Nigeria Awards Power Plant Contract

Breakbulk Online - News Story

Nigeria Delta Power has contracted with Siemens Energy to build Gerega II, a US$300 million gas turbine power plant in Ajaokuta, located approximately 124 miles south of the capital Abuja.

The company will supply three SGT5-2000E gas turbines, the electrical equipment and an SPPA-T3000 instrumentation and control system for the plant. The 434-megawatt power plant is scheduled to start commercial operation in late 2012.

An installed power plant capacity of approximately 6000 MW is the mid-term target. With Gerega II, the number of Siemens heavy-duty gas turbines in Nigeria will increase to eight, according to the company.

Siemens built Gerega I for Nigeria in 2006.
