Crippled by outages, India’s five-unit Ennore power plant, located near Chennai on India’s east coast, will be replaced by a new 600-megawatt thermal plant, according to a statement from the Tamil Nadu government in the Deccan Chronicle.
The current 450-megawatt plant has suffered equipment failures stemming from aging boilers and condensers. Along with outages, the plant is operating at less-than-load capacity.
The US$813 million Ennore Thermal Power Station will be built on a 90-acre parcel and is scheduled to be completed by 2015.
