General Electric is partnering with a Swiss company, Advanced Power, to build a US$1.4 billion combined cycle natural gas power plant in New York.
The 1,000-megawatt Cricket Valley Energy Center will be located in Dover Plains on the border of New York and Connecticut. The Zug, Switzerland-based energy developer told regulators that it has signed a five-year contract with GE to build other gas-fired plants in North America along with Cricket Valley.
GE would supply the generating equipment for the proposed plant. The steam turbines would be locally manufactured in Schenectady, New York.
Advanced Power is seeking approval for the plant through the state Public Service Commission. Company policy prohibits GE officials from commenting publicly on the Cricket Valley project because it is still in the proposal stage, a GE spokeswoman told reporters.
