Chinese Steelmaker Announces Coal-to-Gas Project

Northwestern China's largest steel maker, Gansu Jiuquan Iron & Steel Group, has signed an agreement with the Zhangye municipal government to build a coal-to-gas plant in Gansu province.

The US$3.38 billion project will be located in the Zhangye Industrial Zone. It is expected to produce four billion cubic meters of gas per year, according to international reports.

Jiuquan Iron & Steel Group's subsidiary Gansu Hongsheng Renewable Energy Co. will construct and operate the facility, which is scheduled for completion in 2015.
