The Georgia Ports Authority said that the Port of Brunswick recorded double-digit growth for the month of July as compared to July of 2009, including a 25.4 percent increase in forest products and other breakbulk cargo and an 89.3 percent increase in automobiles handled.
Two of Brunswick's four facilities accounted for the lion's share of the increase. At Colonel's Island Terminal, Brunswick's ro-ro facility, handled 35,789 autos in July, an 89.3 percent compared with July 2009. Breakbulk volume at Mayor’s Point Terminal, consisting mostly of forest and solid wood products, rose 25.4 percent compared with last July.
The Port of Savannah also set a new record for monthly volume in July, moving more than 250,000 TEUs, a year-over-year increase of 20.7 percent. July was the eighth consecutive month of double-digit growth for both ports, according to the GPA.
