An ArcelorMittal subsidiary will produce rolled, welded and spiral pipe at a new facility at the Port of Longview, Wash. Port executives approved leases with Skyline Steel, the Arcelor subsidiary, and with IDM Longview to construct and operate a steel pipe manufacturing center on port property. IDM will build the steel pipe manufacturing plant and lease it to Skyline.
Ted Grodhaus, CEO and president of Skyline Steel, said in a statement from the port that his company plans to serve as a “foundation market” in the western U.S. The steel production facility will be the third to locate at the Port of Longview.
Longivew is 66 miles from the Pacific Ocean on the Columbia River’s deep draft shipping channel. The port’s cargo handling specialties include all types of bulk and breakbulk cargo including steel, logs, project and heavy lift cargo.
