A 337-ton transformer was transported more than 300 miles by Berard from the Port of New Orleans to Sterling, Louisiana. Berard prepared a McDonough deckbarge to receive the cargo from ship cranes at the port and arranged the subsequent barge transport to Sterlington.
Upon arrival, the Louisiana-based heavy hauler prepared the Ouachita River bank for the roll-off operation, using Goldhofer transporters for the steep levee crossing, according to a company statement. Once secured on the 12-axle transporters, the transformer was moved one mile over public roads to an electrical substation.
The transformer measured 35 feet long, 14 feet wide and 16 feet high. The transport took two days to complete.
