Two Moves in Louisiana

Breakbulk Online - Video

Berard Transportation recently completed two moves in Louisiana that required special handling.

The first move involved two modules: one weighing 4,000 tons, and 165 feet long, 90 feet wide, and 70 feet tall , and a second weighing 3.200 tons, and 150 feet long, 87 feet wide, and 70 feet tall.

The oversized and overweight modules were loaded out at the fabrication yard at Houma, La.

Destined to become part of the Nikaitchuq Development Project in Prudhoe Bay, Alaska, the modules were transported through the fabrication yard using 144 lines of self-propelled modular transporters, known as SPMTs. The SPMTs used a total of 736 tires for each load.

The modules were then loaded onto a pair of 400-foot- long deck barges, which transported the cargo through the Panama Canal and ultimately delivered them to the job site in Prudhoe Bay, Alaska.

The second move involved a 125-ton vessel that was transported some 50 miles on a pair of six-line Goldhofer THP platform trailers from the fabrication facility in Montz, La., to the Dow Chemical plant in Hahnville, La.
