The south Florida port of Port Manatee received a second Gottwald mobile harbor crane Friday. The new crane will work multiple berths and primarily be used to handle containers. It was manufactured in Germany and arrived on the multi-purpose vessel Beluga Endeavor. Fully assembled, the crane will weigh 420 tons.
The $4 million crane will be bought using a 15-year public-private partnership between the port and Logistec USA, the same method used to purchase the port’s first crane, also a Gottwald. Logistec purchased the new crane; once it is certified and operational, the port authority will have 90 days to pay Logistec half of the purchase price, which will be funded by Florida state transportation grants. The port will then lease the crane back to Logistec for more than the monthly installment payments.
