Galveston Appoints Mierzwa Port Director

Breakbulk Online - News Story

The Board of Trustees of the Galveston Wharves has named Mike Mierzwa port director.

Outgoing Port Director Steve Cerna has been offered a position as port director for Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

Mierzwa has been with the port for 11 years and most recently served as its deputy port director, responsible for the day-to-day operations of the port. His new duties will include working with the city.

“We have a lot of things out there on our plate,” Mierzwa said at the recent board meeting. “We have the issue with the city and the Galveston transit terminal, we also are trying to make some improvements to our wharves at Del Monte, we have some more work that can be done down at Pier 12 and 14; obviously the big one for us is trying to get through the lawsuit we have with our insurance providers in trying to continue on toward recovery from Hurricane Ike.”
