Damen Builds Modular Dock for Djibouti

Breakbulk Online - News Story

Damen Shipyards is building a modular dock for Djibouti on the Gulf of Aden. The dock will be used for repair and maintenance of port-calling vessels and for the Djibouti Port Authoritty's fleet.

The dock, which will measure 50 meters by 20 meters, is under construction at Damen's shipyard in Dubai, a company statement said.

"Every unit measures 10 meters. You can enlarge the dock to a length of 100 meters whenever you choose. Modules and wing walls are coupled afloat," said Marcel Karsijns, manager of special projects. After delivery in the second half of 2012, a Damen services team will stay on location for two years to give operational and technical support. Damen Services in Gorinchem, The Netherlands, will supply parts and equipment.
