Breakbulk Continues Rise at Tacoma

Volumes surge more than 60 percent in Washington state.

Breakbulk cargoes and log volumes continued their upward trend in January at the Port of Tacoma, as January breakbulk volume climbing 66 percent year-over-year to 10,575 tons.

Log exports rose 60 percent to 28,804 tons compared with January 2011.

Autos dropped 30 percent by weight to 11,396 tons January. By units, the decrease was 26 percent to 7,421 cars last month.

Tacoma's total tonnage improved 8 percent to 1.36 million tons. Vessel calls rose 11 percent from 70 to 78.
