Port of Tianjin Reports Strong Growth

The logistics and transportation industry in the city of Tianjin and nearby port facilities reported strong growth in 2016.

A report posted on the China Federation of Logistics website said Tianjin port’s cargo throughput rose more than 1.8 percent last year compared to 2015 to nearly 550 million tons.

Meanwhile, the city’s airport saw cargo throughput jump 9 percent last year to 237,000 tons, from 2015, while freight cargo carried by trucks over the area’s highways rose to 328 million tons.

The report said Tianjin made progress last year toward improving its transportation and logistics systems by, for example, more closely integrating its highway network, rail and public transportation system with those in nearby Beijing and Hebei Province.

The port also “achieved good results” in ongoing efforts to control ship pollution and road dust.
