Two Die in Rio Explosion

Breakbulk Online - News Story

Two shipyard workers have died and three people have been hospitalized in an explosion on a Gearbulk vessel in Brazil.

The Bahamas-registered Auk Arrow has been berthed at the Enavi Shipyard in Nitoroi across the bay from Rio de Janeiro since July 25 to undergo water ballast tank repairs.

The 27,952-gross-ton vessel is managed by Kristian Gerhard Jebsen Skipsrederi A/S.

None of the ship’s 31 crew members, all of Indian nationality, were injured in the Monday blast, according to a company statement.
