Jumbo Offshore has completed the installation of 131 transition pieces for the Greater Gabbard Offshore Wind Farm, off the U.K.’s south coast.
Using its dynamic positioning system, the heavy-lift vessel Jumbo Javelin was able to install more than one TP per day, a record-breaking time according to the carrier. The vessel and crew transported and installed nine TPs per trip for client Fluor and finished one month ahead of schedule.

The TPs weighed up to 300 metric tons apiece and were loaded at Flushing. They were stowed vertically in the holds and the vessel sailed with open hatches.
Jumbo’s scope of work included transport, installation, leveling and grouting of the TP’s. In March the vessel was outfitted with job-specific equipment including temporary living quarters, a grout plant and an Ampelmann access system, a ship-based, self-stabilizing system that compensates for all vessel motions and allows crews safe access from the vessel to the installed TP.
