Hanssy Wins Transport Contract for Hongsa

Breakbulk Online - News Story

Singapore-based heavy-lift carrier Hanssy will handle the ocean transportation from China to Thailand and project site material management for the 1,800-megawatt Hongsa coal-fired power plant.

China National Electric Engineering, awarded the contract to Hanssy, as a subcontractor under its engineering, procurement and construction contract with China National Electric Equipment Corporation. The US$1.68 billion project is the largest cooperative project between Laos and Thailand, according to a company statement.

The plant will consist of three 600-megwatt subcritical units that will burn lignite with a high water content produced from an open-cut coal mine, located approximately five kilometers from the power plant near Hongsha Town. Water supply for the power plant will be from two reservoirs on Nam Louak (upstream of Muang Hongsa) and Nam Kene (downstream of Muang Hongsa).

CNEEC expects construction to take five years.
