Alstom-Atomenergomash signed a contract to supply turbine island equipment for the Baltic Nuclear Power Plant in Kaliningrad. The contract value is more than US$1.15 billion, according to a statement from the joint venture partners.
The equipment includes steam turbines, generators, condensers and moisture separator reheaters. and auxiliary equipment. Production will be split between plants in Russian and Alstom's Belfort plant in France.
The Baltic Nuclear Power Plant will consist of two reactors due to come online in 2016 and 2018 with a total generating capacity of 2,400 megawatts. It is located on the Baltic Sea between Lithuania and Poland. Rosatom is the general contractor for the project.
This is the first contract for Alstom-Atomenergomash and the first time a foreign investor has participated in a nuclear power plant on Russian soil.
