Fluor and GEH Sign MoU for Finnish Nuclear Project

Breakbulk Online - News Story

Fluor has signed a project development memorandum of understanding with GE Hitachi Nuclear Energy to pursue a potential new nuclear power plant project in Finland. Fluor would serve as the engineering, procurement and construction partner with GEH, according to a company statement.

The Finnish utility Teollisuuden Voima Oyj has begun plans for building a fourth reactor at Olkiluoto, located on Olkiluoto Island in western Finland. TVO is evaluating several different reactor technologies for the Olkiluoto-4 project including GEH’s Generation III+ Economic Simplified Boiling Water Reactor design. A license for a fourth reactor to be built at the site was granted by the Finnish parliament in July 2010.

Currently, two 860-megawatt reactors are operating at Olkiluoto and a third 1,600-megawatt Areva reactor is under construction and due to be commissioned in 2014.
