The dome for the first unit at Changjiang Nuclear Power Project has been installed, marking the completion of the civil construction stage for the first phase of the project. The dome will enclose a 650-megawatt reactor of Chinese design.
Changjiang consists of four 650-megawatt reactors, two in each construction phase. Unit 1 is scheduled to be completed in 2014 and the second unit will be commissioned in 2015.
The plant is located in Changjiang county in the province of Hainan. With the dome in place, work will now proceed on installing the reactor. Chanjiang is a joint venture between China National Nuclear Corporation and the China Huaneng Group.
