Breakbulk specialist Mammoet has delivered a wind turbine prototype for the Drantum II wind energy project near Drantum, Denmark.
The Siemens SWT-3.15-142 prototype has a hub height of 165 meters and features lightweight carbon blades, each 69 meters long. It has been designed to operate at low wind speeds.
“Thorough analysis revealed that the blades could become unstable during transportation. To ensure the blades would be transported safely and within the planned schedule, Mammoet designed two custom-built support frames which would keep the structural integrity of the blades intact,” a spokesperson for Mammoet said.
Headquartered in Schiedam in the Netherlands, Mammoet provides a range of services from transportation and logistics planning to heavy-lift and crane rental.
