The first parts of the reconditioned gold processing plant bought by Toronto-based Banro Corp. for its Democratic Republic of Congo project have arrived on site.
The entire plant, which is being transported by truck from Mombasa, Kenya, in 140 40-foot containers, is scheduled to arrive at the site during the next 10 weeks.
A public ceremony, hosted by the governor and deputy governor of the South Kivu province, was held last week to mark the arrival of the first fleet of trucks. Company officials says construction of the Twangiza mine is also on schedule, with phase-one earthworks completed June 28. Assembly of the recycled gold plant are to begin in October, with completion scheduled for end of 2011.
Banro acquired the plant in Australia for re-assembly at its wholly-owned Twangiza gold project in South Kivu Province.
Banro is a Canadian-based gold exploration and development company focused on the development of four major, wholly-owned gold projects, each with mining licenses, along the 210 kilometer Twangiza-Namoya gold belt in the South Kivu and Maniema provinces of the DRC.
