Camp Victory Empties Ahead of Schedule

Breakbulk Online - News Story

The U.S. government is continuing its plans to remove combat troops from Iraq by December 31 of this year. Move One Logistics has successfully facilitated the military’s exit from Camp Victory, the region’s logistics hub and the core of the Victory Base Complex surrounding Baghdad International Airport.

Many civilian shipments are now being cleared in Erbil, rather than Baghdad, due to challenging customs procedures in the capital. Most contracting companies are relocating as well, maintaining a presence at either the nearby International Zone or Baghdad International Airport Village, according to a Move One statement. The Dubai-based logistics firm will continue serving its civilian and military customers at BIAP Village, the southern compound of Az-Zubayr, and the northern village of Erbil.

Move One left Camp Victory earlier than expected. Companies were instructed to leave by November 15. The Department of State will be taking over operations in Iraq from the U.S. military by the end of December. The transition stipulates that only Department of State contractors can remain on sites such as Camp Victory’s Sather Airbase. All 39,000 U.S. troops, as well as their supporting infrastructure and supplies, are expected to exit by the end of this year.
