Germany’s Siemens has received a US$780 million order from Russian Railways for high-speed trains. Siemens will deliver eight Velaro RUS trains beginning in 2014, according to international reports. Each train has 10 carriages capable of carrying 600 passengers at speeds up to 155 mph.
The new high-speed link will connect Moscow with St. Petersburg.
Over the next 30 years, Russia plans to invest US$494 billion in new rolling stock and infrastructure, according to RZD (Russian Railways).
