The Indian government plans to construct as many as 35 multimodal logistics parks to improve logistics provision across the country according to Nitin Gadkari, Minister of Road Transport and Highways.
“We have identified 36 ring roads in the country that will have logistics parks. We have also consulted several stakeholders for the projects … The government is also working to formulate a uniform policy for the development of Multimodal Logistics Parks,” Gadkari said.
The government has also outlined plans to integrate the road, rail, aviation and port ministries in one platform. This follows a study commissioned by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways which identifies four key solution themes to improve the state of logistics in India: freight corridor upgradation, logistics park development, seamless interstate movement, and electronic toll collection systems.
“If our economy is to flourish and if we want to ensure sustainable and balanced growth in the country, we urgently need to reduce our logistics cost to globally comparable rates,” Gadkari added.
