Project cargo handler GPO Heavylift has completed transport of a main support frame module for the Johan Sverdrup drilling platform in Norway.
The project marked the maiden voyage of the firm’s heavy-lift vessel GPO Grace, which transferred the 10,800-tonne module from Thailand to Norway. Loading was carried out at Aibel’s yard using 496 axle lines of self-propelled modular transporters.
“Everything was well-prepared and the crews in Thailand and on board the GPO Grace deserve a lot of credit for making ready and tidy the module for the lifting operation. This meant that we were able to complete the operation in shorter time than scheduled,” said Anne Kindlihagen, Aibel’s Marine operation manager.
In Norway, the module was lifted by Heerema’s heavy-lift crane vessel Thialf in Klosterfjorden north of Haugesund on behalf of Statoil.
