The government of Oman has awarded Saudi National Contracting and India's Larsen & Toubro two separate contracts worth US$83.4 million to build power transmission units.
Saudi National Contracting will build interconnecting transmission units and Larsen & Toubro will build a power grid station, according to a statement from state-run Oman Electricity Transmission Company.
The combined contracts are in preparation for the construction of a 2,000-megawatt power plant to be built in Sur Industrial Estate in the Sharqiya region of the Sultanate.
The multi-billion dollar gas-fired power plant construction will be put out for bid early next year and is scheduled to begin generating power in 2013, according to government officials. Sur will be Oman’s largest power plant.
