Australian engineering group Monadelphous has won a US$70 million construction contract from Bechtel for the early phases of the Wheatstone Project near Onslow in Western Australia.
The Chevron-operated Wheatstone Project is a joint venture between the Australian subsidiaries of Chevron, Apache, Kuwait Foreign Petroleum Exploration Companyand Shell. The first phase of the project will consist oftwo liquefied natural gas trains with a combined capacity of 8.9 million tonnes per year and a gas plant.
Work will begin in the first quarter of 2012, according to a statement from Monadelphous. The contract is scheduled to be completed at the end of 2013.
