Eaton Wins Panama Canal Work

Breakbulk Index - News Story

Industrial manufacturer Eaton has been awarded a three-year, US$27 million contract to provide the equipment design, electrical assemblies and engineering services for the distribution and control of electrical power across the Atlantic and Pacific sites of the expanded Panama Canal. The work will be done in partnership with the canal’s lead contractor, Grupo Unidos por el Canal.

The US$5.25 billion extension is scheduled to be completed in 2014. The expansion includes a new set of locks that will double the capacity of the canal.

U.S.-based Eaton will provide an array of power management solutions and products, including arc-resistant medium voltage switchgear and pad mounted transformers, along with on-site equipment start-up supervision, commissioning, testing and training services.
