Vattenfall Begins DanTysk Offshore Wind Construction
Installation vessel carries first four monopiles to site in North Sea
Construction of Vattenfall’s 288-megawatt DanTysk offshore wind farm has begun.
DanTysk is located about 70 kilometers west of the island of Sylt in the North Sea.
The Seafox 5 sailed from Vlissingen near Rotterdam carrying its first four monopiles, measuring about 151 meters long. The monopiles will be installed at depths up to 32 meters.
“Now we hope for good weather and plan to have all 80 foundations and transition pieces in place by August,” Holger Grubel, project manager for the wind farm, said in a statement. The turbines are scheduled to be installed this summer.
The wind farm is expected to be operational in 2014. It is a joint venture by Vattenfall and Stadtwerke München who will invest more than US$1.3 billion in the project.
