Academic Assistance/e-Coaching

Organizations that enroll multiple employees will be asked to assign an individual from their organization to serve as a mentor, or “e-Coach,” to employees taking the course. The e-Coach will have the ability to monitor, via an Internet portal, employees’ progress as they go through the course, and will serve as the student’s adviser and point of contact when they have questions or seek additional information. As they make their way through the course, students are given the opportunity to send messages to their e-Coach seeking clarification or additional information about a particular subject. Importantly, the e-Coach assigned by the company will have the opportunity to use those inquiries to introduce and encourage students into the unique ways the organization approaches and handles specific situations. In this way, the course will assist the company to indoctrinate employees into the company culture. The e-Coach will also be able to provide data on behalf of the company regarding employees’ progress to evaluate areas of challenges and potential for advancement.

About the Breakbulk Institute

The Breakbulk Institute grew out of panel discussions at the 2005 and 2006 Breakbulk and Breakbulk Europe conferences, where senior executives at shippers, carriers and 3PL companies involved in breakbulk cargo described growing challenges in training, retaining and developing talent within their organizations. The Breakbulk Institute will evolve into a multi-course, e-learning program covering all aspects of maritime transport of breakbulk, project-cargo and heavy-lift cargo. Subsequent courses on subjects such as vessel chartering, liability, loading, inland movements, port captain, terminal operations and other subjects will be developed.
