Final Golden Ray Crew Rescued

St. Simons Sound Reopens Thursday

The final missing crewmember from a disabled cargo vessel that was stranded in St. Simons Sound, Brunswick, Georgia, has been rescued by U.S. Coast Guard.

The Golden Ray, a 656-foot vehicle carrier had been on fire since last week when it capsized in the St. Simons Sound with 23 crewmembers and one pilot onboard.

“Rescue crews have extracted the final Golden Ray crewmember safely. All crewmembers are accounted for. Operations will now shift fully to environmental protection, removing the vessel and resuming commerce,” the U.S. Coast Guard stated.

Authorities plan to reopen the shipping channel on Thursday, but traffic is expected to be limited to one-way only for limited hours.
